We hope so!
Our CrossTalk mentors are the most important part of our educational process. The mentors not only are responsible to lead all three 2-week residencies, but to form life-long relationships with the students in their cohorts.
CrossTalk mentors are not on “missions vacations.” What we do is very demanding physically, mentally, relationally, spiritually and culturally. Keep three things in mind as you consider this opportunity:
- You have to know the theory of “big idea” biblical preaching. Some of our students may or may not have first learned this content in traditional seminary settings or Doctor of Ministry programs, but every mentor must successfully complete a complete all six weeks of a CrossTalk Global cohort. No exceptions. Because you cannot teach what you have not experienced.
- You need to be recognized by CrossTalk Global and your peers as being an exceptional biblical communicator. No one wants to learn from someone who cannot do what they are teaching. As Jesus pointed out in Luke 6:40: “everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.”
- You need to learn that when you pack your suitcase, you have to leave your culture at home. Jesus is our cultural example. As Jesus left heaven and fully integrated into first century Jewish culture, so we are called to leave our culture behind and fully embrace the culture of our students. Our task is to equip effective biblical communicators for their cultural context, not ours.
